Bonedoc ACL is a serious game developed to enhance the understanding and performance of arthroscopic ACL reconstruction. It follows the spirit of the original Bonedoc project — making surgical learning accessible, interactive, and engaging for trainees, students, and enthusiasts of orthopaedic surgery.
Like its predecessor, Bonedoc ACL represents an implementation of the principle “See One, Do One, Teach One.” You can first watch training clips on this site to understand the procedure, then perform your own virtual ACL reconstruction within the app, and finally share or demonstrate the experience to others interested in orthopaedics.
The app simulates realistic operating theatre and arthroscopic views. Practising multiple times on the same patient allows insights into the correlations between different locations of tibial and femoral tunnels.
Immediate post-surgery you’ll see how close your tunnels are to ideal insertion sites, and receive commentary about tendon length, dependant on exact knee flexion — something rarely possible during real surgery. This includes 'virtual dissection' which provides real-time view of exact tunnel placement
While Bonedoc ACL does not yet support Game Center integration, the scoring and opportunity to share feedback system encourage self-improvement and competition among trainees in the same institution.
Our goal is that Bonedoc ACL becomes an indispensable learning tool: a safe, repeatable, and motivating environment for refining arthroscopic skills. Whether you are starting a surgical career or preparing for your first ACL reconstruction in the operating theatre, the app offers an opportunity to gain confidence before you ever hold the real instruments.
The BonedocACL app and its developer take your privacy very seriously. Beyond the information Apple provides to developers that you can decide to provide, It uses no third-party analytics or advertising frameworks. The BonedocACL app only stores a code on how well you have performed virtual surgery for each virtual patient, so you can proceed to next patient if you have performed well. This remains on your device.
The BonedocACL app does not transmit, distribute or sell your data.
